Melissa Description and Removal Instructions
This is a well-known Internet worm, which spreads by e-mail. It comes attached to e-mail messages and looks like a text document. However, when a user opens such attachment, the worm installs itself to the computer and starts to spread. It modifies Microsoft Word settings and infects lots of text documents. Then it sends out infected documents attached to e-mails. These actions can disclose user's personal documents and other confidential information. The worm sends out huge amount of infected letters and can overload mail servers.
Automatically Detect Melissa

Remove Melissa Manually
To remove all Melissa files, you must kill all Melissa
processes that are running in your
computer's memory.
To kill Melissa
processes, press
CTRL+ALT+DELETE
to open the Windows Task Manager. Click on the
"Processes" tab,
search for Melissa, then
right-click it and select
"End
Process" key.
You'll also need to remove Melissa
registry keys. To remove Melissa registry keys, click on the
Windows
"Start" button
and select
"Run"
to open Windows Registry Editor. A window will popup. Type
"regedit" into the
box, and click
"OK".
Search for the registry key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Melissa."
Right-click it and select
"Delete."
Finally, you'll need to manually delete other
files to clean your PC of Melissa. These Melissa
can be in the form of EXE, DLL, LSP, TOOLBAR, BROWSER HIJACK, and/or BROWSER PLUGIN. For example, Melissa
might create a file like %PROGRAM_FILES%\Melissa\Melissa.exe.
Locate and remove these files.
