VBS/Freelink Description and Removal Instructions
VBS/Freelink is an encrypted worm that spreads via email and IRC channels. Once it is executed, the worm script will create a new script file "RUNDLL.VBS" in the Windows system folder and modify the system registry to execute this script upon every Windows start-up. Once VBS/Freelink is launched, it will use MS Outlook to automatically send an email with an attachment of itself.
Automatically Detect VBS/Freelink
Download SpyHunter* Scanner to Detect VBS/Freelink.
- Run a full system scan to detect VBS/Freelink files.
- Once you've detected VBS/Freelink on your PC, you will then need to purchase SpyHunter to start the removal process.
- Reboot your PC and rerun the scan for any remaining traces of VBS/Freelink.
Remove VBS/Freelink Manually
To remove all VBS/Freelink files, you must kill all VBS/Freelink
processes that are running in your
computer's memory.
To kill VBS/Freelink
processes, press
CTRL+ALT+DELETE
to open the Windows Task Manager. Click on the
"Processes" tab,
search for VBS/Freelink, then
right-click it and select
"End
Process" key.
You'll also need to remove VBS/Freelink
registry keys. To remove VBS/Freelink registry keys, click on the
Windows
"Start" button
and select
"Run"
to open Windows Registry Editor. A window will popup. Type
"regedit" into the
box, and click
"OK".
Search for the registry key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\VBS/Freelink."
Right-click it and select
"Delete."
Finally, you'll need to manually delete other
files to clean your PC of VBS/Freelink. These VBS/Freelink
can be in the form of EXE, DLL, LSP, TOOLBAR, BROWSER HIJACK, and/or BROWSER PLUGIN. For example, VBS/Freelink
might create a file like %PROGRAM_FILES%\VBS/Freelink\VBS/Freelink.exe.
Locate and remove these files.
